Iowa Family Reunion July 4th

By schrier, 5 August 2009 9:24 pm

The families of Jim and Joanne, and, Bob and Merce Schrier gathered at the home of Dana and Pat (Schrier) Webber in Jesup, Iowa, on July 6th.   Anne Schrier Curley, Mary Schrier Otting, John Schrier, Jane Schrier Kock, Barb Schrier Besch, and Bill Schrier had been at the Traer Farm that week sorting through family heirlooms and Genealogy. Linked below are a few photos from the week, including the party and Pat and Dana’s.   A lot of the material on the Genealogy part of this website reflects our work sorting through the family heirlooms, newspaper clippings and the (ton of) funeral cards.

The last photo below needs a bit of explanation. I labeled it a “dolmen”, which is an set of ancient stone constructions found in Ireland. This one is on the farm in Iowa, but is actually the well which was under the windmill. In 2008 the windmill was removed, because it was collapsing. The well was pulled up because it presented a danger to kids and others wandering around. The “well” turned out to be this concrete cube, which actually has a lot of interesting things – broken bricks, barbed wire, etc. – embedded in the sides. It still sits in the farmyard.

Besides the photos below, there is video posted on Bill Schrier’s YouTube Channel here:
