Our long-time friends Ron and Roberta Fowler celebrated their 50th Anniversary with a party at Holy Rosary School on May 15, 2010. Photos are on our Picasa site – click the photo below to view the album.
April 4th was Easter and we welcomed the family to our house for the sorta traditional Easter feast. We hosted the Coxes, Kumers, Parrs, Lafollettes, Wayne Garrow, Nancy Morrison and more. We had the traditional Easter egg hunt outside, the traditional ham feast and the traditional gorging on chocolate and jelly beans. At the center of the show were 3 month old Elle (Elizabeth Ann) and Daphne the blind dog. There are photos on our Picasa album here or below – click on the photo below to see the entire album.

Eleven week-old granddaughter Elizabeth Ann (Elle) visited us in Seattle the past couple days, March 19th and 20th. She’s now bright-eyed, looking around, sometimes smiling when people smile at her, and starting to coo. Below are links to an album with a few photos of the event, and below that is a link to our You Tube Channel with two videos. Like all babies, she sometimes gets upset, and she started to squirm while Alex was holding her in the second video.
Elizabeth Ann Schrier is now a month old. Kathy, Alex and Bill visited her in Kelso, Washington, on February 6th and 7th. She’s a couple of inches longer and a pound heavier than when she was born. These photos and more are on Bill’s album in Picasa – to see it click here, or click on the photo at right (of Alex and Elizabeth at the pool). A few of the photos are below, click any to see a larger version.

I was in Washington DC in early February speaking at a Governing Magazine conference on the outlook for states and local jurisdictions during the Great Recession (short answer: not good). I did my usual “monumental run” – that is jogging around the monuments in DC. I always take my camera, and add to my “thumb prints” collection (photos of my thumb in front of things). But I also witnessed a couple of cool and interesting things, including a flock of gees flying in front of the Washington Monument, a helicopter flying in front of the Washington Monument before landing on the White House lawn, and a self-portrait of me in front of a frozen reflecting pool with the Lincoln Monument in the background. The White House in Winter, a thumbprint. Note the very odd tree just above my thumb.

Almost done with the kitchen remodel! About one more week to go, we think. More photos and more detailed photos to be posted in a week or so. Click any photo to enlarge.
Kathy made two great slide-shows for the reception. Unfortunately we didn’t have a way to display them at the reception, but both are now posted to You Tube. The first is Lara-and-Ryan as kids, with photos of them growing up. The second is a slide show of their trip to Hawaii in August and September, 2009, where they were married. Both have music associated with them, so be sure to “have your ears on”.
Lara and Ryan celebrated their wedding with a rehearsal dinner at our house on Saturday January 16th and with a reception at the Canal near the Locks in Ballard on Sunday January 17th. The were married on September 3, 2009 on Waikiki and this reception celebrated their wedding. Family and friends joined them on the Lake Washington Ship Canal and the Canal reception hall for the event which featured a unique white chocolate cake, a wonderful buffet and sugared pear centerpieces. Many more photos on Bill’s Picasa Website. A slideshow of the photos is below. Here was my toast to them:
Lara and Ryan:
For all the days, weeks, months years and centuries(!) of your lives …
May the Sun shine brightly on the south slope of Queen Anne, or wherever you choose to live …
May the music you make together be peaceful, sweet and in tune(!)
May the beaches you walk upon rise up to meet you …
and their waters always be as warm as those on Waikiki …
May the rains in Seattle stop when you need comforting …
and May the warmth of your love grow into a fire which is with you always …
To Lara and Ryan, two of the happiest, richest people I know …
